The formal name for this routine is what skin care gurus call “the double cleanse.” With origins in the 10-step Korean skin care routine, the double cleanse quite simply means using two different cleansers — one with oil, followed by another with water — to try to get your face as clean as possible, without irritating your skin.
How to double cleanse?
Here are the steps to follow for double cleansing:
1.Dispense your cleansing oil into the palm of one hand and use the fingers on your opposite hand to apply it to wet or dry skin, massaging in gentle circular motions, including around the eyes, for 30–45 seconds. You do not need to use a separate eye-makeup remover.Lightly wipe away makeup, including eye area makeup, with the soft , washcloth, using both sides if necessary.
2.Next, rub your loofah discs on your activated charcoal facial bar and apply it to damp skin, massaging in gentle circular motions.
Once its foams, rinse the second cleanser and pat your skin dry with a clean, soft towel.
Double cleansing isn’t a must-do for most people; however, it can be worth it under certain circumstances. For example, if you wear heavy or transfer-resistant makeup and a mineral-based sunscreen (those with active ingredients titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide), double cleansing ensures you remove both the makeup and the sunscreen, which means the leave-on skincare products that follow can better work their magic.
Always use a clean washcloth every time you wash your face. Hanging a used washcloth up for use later is a bad idea. Bacteria thrive in moist environments such as a wet washcloth. Washing your face with a washcloth that hasn’t been cleaned could spread the bacteria on your skin, potentially leading to an illness or infection.
Washing washcloths after every use isn’t the most green-friendly practice. You’ll consume more water than you would if you washed your face without a washcloth. Most of the time, you can just use some soap and water on your bare hands to wash your face. You can also purchase reusable cotton rounds.
Washing your face once a day but using a washcloth only occasionally to remove dead skin may be the best routine for both your skin and the environment.
